Standing on its own two feet, this release delivers a contemporary Shiraz alternative, framed by a mix of oaks; French and American, old and new – crafted in accordance with the traditional Penfolds method.

 

This classic Barossa Shiraz whose vivid black cherry perfume and notes of pepper and clove are complemented by a youthful vigour and real concentration of pepper-infused blackberry fruit and sweet dark chocolate with deceptively firm, grippy tannins and a balancing savoury, balsam-like character.

 

A bountiful array of fruits, fresh blueberry and mulberry to one side; dates and fig opposite.

The savoury – a duxelle/chanterelle/morel mushroom sauce and black olive, and the sweet – chocolate/vanilla pre-parfait/mousse.

Texturally hedonistic – a caressing fresh acidity effortlessly accommodating subtle oak and softened tannins.

14 months in French oak (30% new, 13% 1-y.o., 4% 2-y.o.) and American oak hogsheads and puncheons (30% new, 16% 1-y.o., 7% 2-y.o.).
